The Notorious D.I.G. Volunteers
Cassandra Martinez
“I was born and raised in Orange County, we moved to Twenty-nine Palms and as a resident/community member I saw the need that our local youth needed to have something/somewhere they belonged but most importantly not enough for them to do. I was introduced to Club Volleyball in 2022 when my daughter and her bestfriend were asked to play. I was excited for my daughter and her bestfriend(Jennifer’s daughter). By the end of 2023 we were notified that the club would no longer be participating in tournaments. It was unfortunate as our girls had gained so much love for the sport and got to experience the competitiveness of club volleyball. Jennifer and I got together and decided to turn our thoughts/conversations into reality. By bringing our community and future athletes the same opportunity our daughters had been given in 2022. Notorious D.I.G was brought to life and in the few months we’ve been able to see the impact we positively have had on our players. We hope to continue to provide this to all of our Morongo Basin youth with the tools/skills/knowledge whether they wish to play at a higher level or to use Volleyball to get a College scholarship with the hopes of higher education. “

“As a current resident of Twenty-nine Palms of 20+ years and a mom, I was introduced to club volleyball when my daughter and her best friend (Cassandra’s daughter) played in 2022. I loved seeing my girls on the court and seeing their passion continue to grow for the sport. When we were notified that they would no longer be able to play, Cassandra and I got together and started throwing ideas out. One of which was to run a club that would allow our girls to continue to play but to also open it up to others so they can have the experience my daughter did. From traveling to tournaments, meeting other volleyball players, and expanding her mind on what more she can accomplish through volleyball. Notorious D.I.G. was born from there and everything else has been amazing to see it turned into a reality.”

"I joined Notorious D.I.G. because of my long standing passion for everything volleyball. I grew up playing for about 8 years total for my schools and club, winning two high school state titles in Washington State, and I ended up joining the Marine Corps instead of pursing a career of volleyball in college. Now that I’m settled in Twentynine Palms being stationed out here as an Active Duty Marine, I was searching for a volleyball team to help out or even coach and I came across Notorious. My end goal is to help shape these young women into not only outstanding volleyball players, but outstanding members of society."

“I originally got into volleyball in high school, I had a teacher who was a volleyball coach and would personally work with me. I would go to his team’s practices, see how he coaches, and throughout my four years, just fell in love with the sport. I heard about a coaching opportunity from one of my coworkers and immediately became interested. I want to be able to pass on the knowledge that was given to me, to the girls of the Notorious D.I.G. Volleyball Club. I’m very proud of what they’ve accomplished so far, and am so excited to see how far they continue to progress throughout their volleyball careers.”
